Lucretius: On the Nature of Things

Study of the poetry and philosophy of Lucretius' De rerum natura and of its influence on modern science and philosophy. Topics include Epicurean physics and ethics, free will, contingency and design in nature, death and human mortality, romantic love, religion, politics, and technological progress. Students must have two years of Latin or equivalent.
