Cleopatra: Myth, Memory, Meaning. Who gets a say in how someone is remembered? This class is a study of the life and legacy of one of the ancient world's most famous yet misunderstood rulers, Queen Cleopatra of Egypt. Students learn the tools through which historians piece together the history of Cleopatra from fragmentary data. Students also explore how the memory of Cleopatra has been shaped and reshaped in the modern world by different communities, artists, and individuals all with their own ideas about who Cleopatra was and why she should matter to us.
Prerequisites
Reserved for first-year students in the Memory constellation. Students may enroll in one constellation course per semester.
